(1,2) Kevin Roscoe, 28, (RED) (145lbs) exchange blows with Gary Philpot, 25, (BLUE) (147lbs)  during Muscle Beach Amateur Boxing on Sunday, May 25, 2008. Roscoe won the bout by decision. (3,4) Anthony Rodriguez, 18, (RED) (136lbs) and Dominguez Vasquez, 19, (BLUE) box for three rounds on Sunday in Venice.  Vasquez won the bout by a decision. Muscle Beach Amateur Boxing was presented by Pro Fight. There were twealve 3-round bouts of amateur boxing  starting with the young boxers from the Boys & Girls Club, moving to the boxers from Venice High School and then the Marines vs Army, UCLA vs. USC, and the great finale was the Los Angeles Fire Department vs LA County Sheriffs.

Boxing coach 'Pete G!' puts his student Karen through some sparring drills atop of the public art sculpture titled "Ocean Park Segue" (by artist Joyce Kohl) on Ocean Park Beach and Barnard Way in Santa Monica on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Fabricated on the site, Ocean Park Segue consists of two raised concrete performance platforms, each made of six horizontally stacked concrete slabs, pivoted to create stairs and overhangs. The surface of the slabs is imprinted with cast beach artifacts both human-made and natural. The platforms are used for sponsored and spontaneous performances, picnicking and playing. The installation measures forty inches in height with a total area of fifteen feet by fifteen feet for each slab.

The L.A. Leggers run along the Santa Monica Boardwalk on Saturday, January 12, 2008. The runners are training for the 2008 Los Angeles Marathon that will be held on Sunday, March 2. L.A. Leggers is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization. Their membership includes runners, walkers and volunteer with diverse backgrounds and experience. The organization offers members training and an educational program that enables individuals to attain their own personal goals and objectives. By following their training program, ordinary people can complete an extraordinary challenge - finishing a 1/2 or full marathon.

1,2,3) Swimmers run into the chilly Pacific Ocean during the 48th Annual Venice Penguin Swim on New Years Day-Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at the Venice Beach Breakwater.  The 2008 Penguin Swim featured more than 80 participants, three-foot waves, and sunny 70-degree weather, with a water temperature of 55 degrees. 4) Bridget King, 23, (left) and Amanda Nola, 18, (right) bare  the cold water tempature of winter Pacific Ocean. 5) Chappie DeHaven, 38, swims ahead of the pack and wins this years 400 yard Venice Penguin Swim race with a time of five minutes and ten seconds. 6) The Venice Penguin Swim club dates back to 1958.
